Accessibility Features
As of September 2026, videos in the most recent revisions of both the RC Basic and RC IDD Basic are embedded in the slides. This makes showing videos easier by:
- automatically switching to full screen display mode when you click the play button
- automatically returning to the slide presentation after the video plays
- it also plays regardless of internet connection, increasing reliability
However, one downside to embedded videos is that it removes access to closed captioning. In order to preserve access, the revisions now integrate links underneath videos that lead to an online version with closed-captioning and multi-language subtitles available.

Agency Updates just got a major upgrade that will vastly improve and personalize access to your agency’s registration and attendance information in real time. Welcome to the new, frictionless tracking experience.
In the past, RC Agency Contacts received 4 email updates per year to help them monitor their progress. Thanks to improvements to our registration system, you no longer need to wait for an email from us. Agency Contacts will receive an email tomorrow with their agency’s personalized link, and everyone in the RC community can check here on the Trainers’ Corner for their agency’s link to find their information anytime.
Attendance requirements: RC Trainers and RC IDD Trainers are required to attend two trainer-level events per calendar year (January-December) to maintain their trainer status. Events that count toward this requirement are: Any Train-the-Trainer (RC, RA, or FC), RC or RC IDD Recertification (due every 2 years), and RC Webinars.
Champions and Agency Contacts are welcome to attend RC Webinars, but are not required to do so.

Our Commitment to Trauma-informed Care, Equity, and Racial Healing
In 2025, we are celebrating the Risking Connection curriculum’s 25th anniversary! While the underlying theoretical framework has stood the test of time, trauma knowledge, awareness, social-cultural perspectives have evolved. The current Risking Connection training meets the challenges that 2025 brings to those in the United States who are committed to advancing trauma-informed care, equity, and racial healing.
At the Traumatic Stress Institute (TSI), we do what we do because we believe:
- Adversity and trauma are common
- Trauma training and trauma-informed care must address the trauma of racism
- Relationships are critical to healing
- Trauma-informed organizations are places where staff thrive, and clients heal
Our Risking Connection Change Model, which includes Risking Connection training, supports this view by incorporating research, case scenarios, images, and language representing diverse communities, identities, and traditions across various sectors. Now more than ever, TSI’s bold vision is a world where organizations and service systems fully embrace and embed trauma-informed care so that all trauma survivors who enter their doors heal and thrive.
RC Monthly Mindfulness has Closed
RC Monthly Mindfulness sessions have now ended. Trauma-sensitive mindfulness practices can improve personal and professional well-being and while our Monthly Mindfulness sessions have officially ended, you can always utilize our collection of prior recorded sessions via the link below, or search for “Mindfulness” on our blog to find written content.
As we’re always thinking about ways to bring helpful content to you, we are currently planning a next venture. You can expect to hear more in the fall.
RC Basic Training Evaluation Form
We believe the evaluation forms are useful tools for RC Trainers and encourage you to use them. However, TSI’s former practice of requesting you share your evaluations has been discontinued; they are now purely for your own/your agency’s review and learning.
Below is an example of an Evaluation Form participants could complete at the conclusion of the RC Basic Training, but you can also feel free to create your own form or use Google Forms to create an online version.
RC Trainer Attendance Requirements and Organizational Requirements
For New RC Associate Trainers that Have Completed the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) in the
Current Calendar Year:
- The RC TTT counts as one event. You MUST attend at least one other event this
year unless your TTT occurs after October 1st of that year. Then you do NOT need to
attend another event this year. - TSI offers 6 to 8 webinars per year for you to choose from. We occasionally may
structure webinars differently but will give advance notice. - There is no additional cost during the year of your RC TTT; your agency will be billed per year in the future.
- You can attend as many webinars as you like at no additional cost.
For RC Associate Trainers that Have Completed the Train-the-Trainer in Previous
Calendar Years:
- You must attend at least 2 Trainer events during each calendar year.
- If you are in a Recertification year, that training counts as one of your events.
- TSI offers 6 to 8 webinars per year for you to choose from. We occasionally may
structure webinars differently but will give advance notice. - Your agency pays an annual fee per Trainer to cover webinars.
- You can attend as many webinars as you like for the same annual fee.
- There is a separate cost for the Recertification training.
Trainers must attend a Recertification training every two years. This is a one-day
training that is offered virtually. There is a separate cost for this training.
RC Training Resources (materials, videos, training ideas, etc.)
Certificate Templates
RC Agencies can print certificates RC Basic, RC IDD Basic, and RA Basic to give to participants of their agency trainings. We use Google Slides to provide these certificate templates, as it is a great solution that makes sharing – and even automation – of certificates possible.
Please Note: The templates provided are for you to download to your own Google Drive for use. If we gave you permission to access our template document, any alterations you make to it would be visible to anyone else using the template. Downloading it makes it your own document that only you/your team can access.
Choose What Works Best for You
Every agency has its own unique environment, training process, and policies. We’ve given you choices so you can find the strategy that’s best for you.

For those who train many participants per session or who enjoy learning about technological enhancements, watch both videos here on the right. The second video details the use of an add-on called Autocrat, which can greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to make batches of certificates.

We would like to HIGHLY recommend this resource from the Child Health and Development Institute on screening for trauma. It is comprehensive, well-designed, and can be completed at your own pace. And it’s free!
The Child Health and Development Institute (CHDI) provides a bridge to better and more equitable health and behavioral health systems, practices, and policies so that children and their families can thrive. CHDI works in partnership with providers, educators, policymakers, and academic institutions to advance research-based solutions that will result in improved outcomes.
CHDI’s Trauma ScreenTIME online Infographic highlights the role of screening in helping children who experience trauma.

ScreenTIME training provides staff in child-serving systems with best practices for trauma screening. The goal is to help child-serving staff identify and support children suffering from traumatic stress as early as possible and connect those in need with effective services.
