Attitudes Related to Trauma-Informed Care
Measure what matters, measure trauma-informed care
Leading the Way in TIC Assessment
The Attitudes Related to Trauma-Informed Care (ARTIC) Scale has been validated through two peer-reviewed studies and received an “A – Psychometrics Well-Demonstrated” rating on the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse (CEBC) scores.

What does the ARTIC Scale Measure?
The ARTIC Scale is a psychometrically valid measure of professional and para-professional attitudes toward trauma-informed care (TIC).
Limitations
- While the ARTIC is likely the most widely used measures of TIC, it measure one indicator of TIC, staff attitudes. There are many other indicators of TIC that could be measured such as trauma-informed staff behavior
- Normative data are not currently available for the ARTIC Scale
Best Practices for the ARTIC Scale Administration
- The ARTIC Scale is an effective tool for evaluating TIC program efficacy, fostering transparent communication within organizations and making data-driven decisions
- Data collection, analysis, ethical data management and data storage are the responsibility of the organization/researcher. The Traumatic Stress Institute is not responsible for these processes
- The ARTIC scale can be administered as a hard-copy survey OR by using online platforms such as Qualtrics, Limesurvey, REDCap or QuestionPro
- Normative/benchmark data are not currently available for the ARTIC Scale.
- For Students: Confirm with your research advisor(s) prior to data collection that the ARTIC is an appropriate instrument for your work
“ARTIC Scale is a user friendly, cost-effective tool that helped us track staff attitudes and culture change over time.”
